Roles & Responsibilities

Employees – Each employee is expected to actively participate in and take ownership of the Safety Policy, goals, and objectives.


Responsibilities

  1. Comply with all applicable safety standards concerning their job.
  2. Follow all Joy Global Surface Mining safety and health rules.
  3. Wear and/or use the prescribed protective equipment.
  4. Report all hazardous conditions, equipment and tools.
  5. Immediately report any job-related injury or illness to your supervisor or manager.
  6. Take personal responsibility for your own safety and that of your coworkers.
  7. Report Near Miss incidents as a proactive measure.
Line Management – Line Management will be held accountable for implementing this Policy.


Responsibilities

  1. Respond to and correct any hazardous conditions in the workplace.
  2. Regularly communicate status of ongoing issues with affected employees.
  3. Attend departmental safety meetings.
  4. Continuously reinforce safe behaviors through coaching, counseling, and discipline.
  5. Investigate all incidents in your department for corrective actions, follow through, and the corresponding closure of the implemented corrective actions.
  6. Complete and submit all Safety reports on a timely basis. Immediately report all medical treatment or Lost Time incidents to your manager.
  7. Attend all regularly scheduled training sessions.
  8. Conduct safety audits with your employees.
  9. Conduct Job Safety Analyses on a regular basis.
  10. Ensure that all contractors are managed or supervised to ensure compliance with the Joy Global Surface Mining safety standards.
Senior Management – Senior Management will be visibly committed and actively supportive of this Policy.


Responsibilities

  1. Provide all employees with a safe and healthful workplace.
  2. Provide the proper equipment and tools in safe working order.
  3. Hold line management accountable through measurable goals for the safety in their areas.
  4. Commit the necessary resources in both money and time to support the safety effort.
  5. Be visibly committed to all aspects of the safety process, including:
  • Incorporating a safety discussion into every staff or employee meeting.
  • Be visible role models in safe behavior.
  • Conduct workplace audits and ensure follow through and closure of corrective actions.
  1. Complete and submit all Safety reports on a timely basis. Immediately report all medical treatment or Lost Time incidents to your manager. All Lost Time incidents must immediately, upon notification, be communicated to the Regional VP and President & COO.
