The mast was erected and welded on the ground approximately 100 ft. (30 m) in front of the dragline. After the walkways were installed and the mast was painted, the mast head was placed on a five axle truck. The crane then picked up the bottom and they slowly maneuvered the 200 ft. (60 m), 230,000 lb. (110,000 kg) mast to the front of the dragline and installed the two pins that attach it to the revolving frame. The mast head was then raised approximately 100 ft. (30 m) in the air and temporarily supported by two 3 in. (7.8 cm) cables.
