The P&H 9020 dragline will uncover and supply 1.5 million tons of coal per year to the Shand Power Station located near the Canadian-US border in southern Saskatchewan. Shand is the most environmentally advanced coal fired generating plant in Canada.

Construction of the Shand Power Station began in 1988 and the plant was commissioned in 1992. Named after a now deserted coal mining settlement which was located 1 km north of the existing plant, Shand has the potential to produce 300,000 kilowatts of electricity at peak.
