The first step in the Verti-shield process is to install and secure six copper dams between the vertical bulkheads. These dams are specially designed for the 60 degree bulkheads and water will be circulated through the dams during the welding process to cool and maintain the proper welding temperature. The six welding tubes are carefully placed in position. The welding crew makes sure at this time that the tubes are insulated from each other and the bulkheads.
